Victor C. Crafton

Victor C. Crafton, son of Henry and Lillian Baxter Crafton, was born May 27, 1921, at Texarkana, Texas. He graduated from Egypt, Arkansas High School in 1938, and later received his business degree from Arkansas State College in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He served during World War II with the U.S. Army from 1939 to 1945.

On January 19, 1943, he was united in marriage with Gussie Maye Rorex. Vic and Gussie moved to Fayette in 1952, where Vic became the bursar at Upper Iowa University and remained in that capacity until retiring in 1987.

A resident of Maple Crest Manor in Fayette since March of 2010, Vic’s death occurred there on Saturday, May 5, 2012. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church, the Fayette American Legion, served as the first president of the Fayette Lions Club, and served on the founding board of Big Rock Country Club in Fayette. He enjoyed playing golf, and in his younger days enjoyed hunting and fishing trips to Minnesota.

In addition to his wife, Gussie of Fayette, he is survived by two daughters, Sue Regan of Jupiter, Florida and Vicki (Greg) Andersen of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two granddaughters, Laura (Steve) Donlin and Erin (Brent) Butler; and six great grandchildren, Joey, Ava, Ryan, Lucy, Brady, and Heidi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert Dean Crafton; and one son-in-law, Richie Regan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the United Methodist Church of Fayette with Rev. Jason Princer officiating. Friends may call for one hour preceding services at the church on Tuesday. Inurnment will be at a later date at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette is in charge of arrangements.

Dear Vicki and Sue,
I just received word of Vic's passing. I am so very sad to hear he has gone. As you know, your parents were nearly as much a part of my life as my own parents were. Vic was my dad's treasured friend; he was always true and supportive to my Dad to the day he was buried. I will never forget how your parents were there to hold me and comfort me when Mom, Denny, and Dad passed away. Without them in my life, times such as those would have been much harder to bear. I also remember that Vic had the most wicked sense of humor. Usually quiet and laid back, when we least expected it, your dad would zing us with the most hilarious, on the nail observation. I spent many fun nights with your folks, Henrys, Streeters, and Wrights laughing and playing rummy, a penny a point.
Please give my love and sympathy to Gussie, and accept my heartfelt condolences for the loss of a wonderful friend. Do you think they're all playing cards together again?

It was great to work with you both while at UIC so many years ago and to recently (a few yrs ago) see you both at a store in Oelwein and that we all knew each other. What a great visit we had.
